What is a bail bond?

A bail bond is a method used to obtain the release of a defendent awaiting trial upon criminal charges from the custody of law enforcment officials. The defendant's family member, friend, or a professional bail bond agent executes a document promising to forfeit the sum of money determined by the court to be commensurate with the gravity of the alleged offense if the defendant fails to return for the trial date. Definition according to the legal dictionary.

What do I need when I call?

In order to ensure swift and efficient service, please have the defendant's name, location, date of birth, bond amount, and alleged charges ready upon contacting us.

Generally speaking, how does the process work?

Process of booking in usually takes 2-3 hours. The person is first arrested by law enforcement, then transported to jail, next fingerprinted and booked in now you are able to post bail. The next step is to choose the bail bonding company that you would like to use from a list of bail bonding companies listed on the wall inside the jail. All bail bonding companies require a co-signer. The co-signer is someone who is going to be liable to the bonding company for the amount of the bond. They will need to sign a contact with the bonding company.

What is required to be a co-signer?

A co-signer must be at least 21-years-old and must be employed and able to provide a recent paycheck stub. The co-signer must also present a valid photo ID and a utility bill.

What if the defendant tries to flee?

If there is no response from the co-signer, then the bonding company will send the recovery agent (more commonly known as a bounty hunter) to locate and return the person to jail.

How much does a bail bond cost?

Misdemeanors are 20%, and Felonies are 10% of total bail.

Besides payment, is any other collateral needed?

Collateral is usually taken on felonies high bonds of $50,000 or higher. Usually, a house is the main collateral and must be free and clear, not owing anything on it. No collateral is needed for misdemeanor bonds.
